New locking system

INTRODUCING THE NEW LOCKING SYSTEM

Eldon is committed to take all your comments and suggestions into consideration in its product development process. Proud to be a responsive listener, Eldon is currently upgrading many features of its floor standing enclosures. Eldon’s new locking system for the floor standing enclosure range is the first among many product upgrades to be launched.

The new locking system can be found on all floor standing enclosure ranges made of mild or stainless steel.

The locking system comprises of a new sleek lock cover which can be customized with your company name or logo, improving the overall aesthetics of Eldon’s floor standing enclosures. The lock cover will be available in plastic for mild steel enclosures, and
in stainless steel for a robust solution for stainless steel enclosures.

The new locking system is compatible with Eldon’s recently launched locking inserts and are equipped with an enhanced security ‘click’ indicator which makes users aware that the locking system is either fully opened or closed.

The locking system’s rods have also been improved, now positioned parallel to the enclosure’s door, offering an improved flush design. The locking rods, combined with the new locking catchers, create a self-positioning system which ensures that the enclosure’s door can be opened or closed smoothly.

This new locking system allows for further tolerances, which means no matter where the floor standing enclosures are installed you have the reassurance that your components are safe and secure.

Double door enclosures are now delivered with a locking system fitted to the slave door as standard. This allows users to gain access to the enclosure while keeping the slave door locked for security and protection reasons. The slave door locking system also improves the locking process as a whole by eliminating the resistance that was caused by the master door.

New metallic lift handles will now replace Eldon’s current swing handles. The lift handle is made of zamak and is finished in either RAL 5013 for mild steel enclosures or a matt chrome paint for stainless steel enclosures. These new lift handles enhance the smooth motion created during closing or opening of the enclosure. Offering a robust solution, the new lift handles can be used with Eldon’s new range of locking inserts or half cylinders. This lift handle is one of many new accessories for Eldon’s locking system for the floor standing range.

For information regarding the compatibility of accessories and replacement parts, please refer to the accessories and replacement part section of this landing page.

WHAT ARE THE CUSTOMER BENEFITS?

The new locking system brings many benefits when compared with its predecessor. All the benefits are aimed at providing Eldon’s customers with enclosures that are the easiest to work with and are designed to ensure that Eldon continues to be the preferred enclosure manufacturer for industrial and residential customers.

An example of an MCS enclosure fitted with the new locking system

 1. New customizable locking handle
Eldon’s new lock cover for mild steel enclosures come with transparent covers at the top and bottom. These transparent covers can be removed in order to insert a company name or logo, which then is secured into positon by remounting the transparent cover.

2. New metallic lifting handles
The new metallic lifting handles are available in two different finishes: RAL 5013 for mild steel enclosures, and a matt chrome paint for stainless steel enclosures. There will also be different versions dependent on whether locking inserts or half cylinders are required. The lift handles enhance the smooth motion when opening and closing the enclosure door even further.

3. Compatible with standard inserts
The new locking covers are compatible with locking inserts and half cylinders. The insert and half cylinder locks available will be mirrored from the current inserts and half cylinders.

4. Enhanced security ‘click’ indicator
When the enclosure is fully locked or unlocked an audible click will be heard which indicates the locking system has been operated correctly.

5. New stainless steel locking cover
Eldon’s stainless steel floor standing enclosures will now come with a robust stainless steel lock cover as standard.

6. Slave door locking system included

Double door enclosures will now come with a locking system fitted to the slave door as standard. This allows users to gain access to the enclosure while keeping the slave door locked for security and protection reasons which enhances the ingress protection. The slave door locking system also helps with the locking process as a whole by eliminating the resistance caused by the master door. The slave door locking system is also very important when the slave door is under load, making sure that the slave door does not open uncontrollably and therefore safeguarding operators from harm.

7. Self-positioning locking catchers

The new locking catchers help to position the locking rods when closing the enclosure door. This allows for further locking tolerances, which means no matter where the floor standing enclosures are installed you have the reassurance that your components are safe and secure.

8. Innovative flat rods

The new locking rods are now positioned parallel to the enclosure’s door offering an improved flush design. When combined with locking catchers, these locking rods provide the smoothest motion when opening and closing the enclosure door.

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT YOU?

Eldon wants to minimise customer disruptions and therefore decided to maintain all item numbers for floor standing enclosures that are fitted with the new locking system, to avoid the need for you to update your software systems.

However, Eldon will create new item numbers for all accessories and replacement parts associated with the new locking system. This is because all the current accessories and replacement parts will remain in Eldon’s systems for replacement purposes.

For further details on the new accessories/replacement parts, please refer to the accessories and replacement part section of this landing page.

As Eldon are not changing the floor standing enclosure item numbers, there will then be two different floor standing enclosure versions in the market. One with the current locking system, and one with the new locking system.

Eldon will manage this by using the manufacturing date that will be displayed on the product information label located on the inside of the enclosure door for floor standing enclosures fitted with the new locking system.

Please use the below table for determining which locking system is installed on your enclosure:

Enclosure type Manufacturing date Locking system type
Mild steel < 16.06.2016 Old
Mild steel 16.06.2016 ≤ New

This product upgrade may affect you in different ways depending whether you fall into any of the groups below:

Distributors and Wholesalers

If you hold stock of Eldon’s floor standing enclosures, it is highly recommended that you follow a ‘first in, first out’ procedure.

This means that all floor standing enclosures fitted with the current locking system should be distributed to the market before customers or end users begin to receive enclosures fitted with the new locking system. This will avoid fluctuations in the enclosure locking system received.

Eldon recommends not to mix floor standing enclosures, where one will have the current locking system and one has the new locking system, based on your customers purchase orders.

Packaged floor standing enclosures with the new locking system can be differentiated from floor standing enclosures with the current locking system by means of the sticker on the left.

Below you will find a link for the new floor standing locking system external newsletter along with an attachment called ‘New Locking system for floor standing enclosures e-mail’. The text needs to be copied in your e-mail before you are able to add your company's signature. Eldon has made these two communications available so this product upgrade can be communicated to your stakeholders.  Please ensure that you adapt the communications to suit your company before sending to your customers.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH ACCESSORIES AND REPLACEMENT PARTS?

The new locking system not only affects standard and customized enclosures but also accessories, replacement and spare parts.

Eldon’s new locking system will only be compatible with the new accessories and replacement parts. The current locking system is only compatible with the current accessories and replacement parts. Therefore, it is very important that, before you order accessories or replacement parts, you know exactly which enclosure version you are using to make sure they are compatible.

Eldon will continue to hold stock of accessories and replacement parts related to the current locking system for customers that require them, but these items will no longer be presented on Eldon's websites or via other media.

By using the above information together with the table below, you will find out what accessories or replacement parts that you may require. All of the current item numbers related to doors will be active in Eldon’s ERP system, which means customers who require them can proceed to order as usual. For all the other current item numbers, these will have to be ordered by contacting Eldon’s sales offices.

Locking

Question

Answer

What locking inserts and cylinders can be used in conjunction with the new locking system?

The new range of locking inserts [LI XXX] and half cylinders [LHC XXX] will be launched along with the new locking system. Eldon currently offers 22 out of the previous 24 locking options. The 2 locking options that are currently not available are under development and will be launched soon.

Is the locking system compatible with other locking cylinders?

Eldon will offer 2 locking adapters as part of their portfolio which will allow customers to use other half, round and ASSA Abloy cylinders that Eldon do not supply. This matches Eldon’s portfolio for the old locking system.

Are EMKA cylinders compatible with the new locking system?

The new locking system is compatible with 90% of EMKAs locking portfolio for locking program 2400. EMKA’s cylinders are only compatible with Eldon’s new lift handle by using an adapter that is either supplied with Eldon’s cylinders or that can be purchased as an accessory.

Can I order special inserts, cylinders or specific key numbers from Eldon that are not displayed in the standard product portfolio?

Eldon will still be able to offer special key numbers and cylinders for specific applications. This will be treated as a customized product. Please contact Eldon’s local sales office for further assistance.

What is meant by the term ‘adapter’?

An adapter is a housing that fills the space available around the locking cylinder when inserted into the lift handle. This ensures that the cylinder fits into the lift handle correctly allowing for full functionality.

What material are the locking inserts and cylinders made of?

Eldon’s new locking inserts and cylinders are made of zinc plated zamak.

Will there be new item numbers for the floor standing enclosures? All floor standing enclosures will keep their current item numbers. Enclosures with the new locking system can be identified by the manufacturing order date on the product information label.  If you keep stock of floor standing enclosures, then the enclosures fitted with the new locking system can be differentiated from enclosures fitted with the current locking system by means of a sticker on the packaging.
Will the new locking system increase the selling price of the floor standing enclosures?  Eldon is committed to provide continuous product enhancements while maintaining competitive pricing. The floor standing range prices will not be affected by the new product upgrade.
How does Eldon guarantee that I will receive a floor standing enclosure with the new locking system?
